Ginny couldn't help but to worry about Hermione. She knew what Ron had done to her and couldn't help but to feel bad for her best friend. She understood why Ron did it. But then she could also sympathize with Hermione over what happened because what Ron did, Harry had done to her. She couldn't help but to want to point the fact out that hermione has always told her that it was for the best when Harry did that. But she wasn't that type of girl. She was a caring and sweet and always there for her friends type of girl
Ginny sat around the house that was hers and Harry's. He had yet to come back from his time away and she was begining to get antsy. She missed him so much. Laying in their bed without him was horrible. Hell laying in any bed without him was bad. Ever since their first date and running around pretending not to be together and finally admitting that they were, she had missed the nights when they didn't share a bed. And now it had been years without him there. And a few owls here and there werent' enough for her. So she went to the only place that she could go to feel close to him.
Ginny got out of her bed and put on a pair of shorts along with her favorite weird sisters tank top. Over top of course her red bikini. She slipped on her tennis shoes and apparated to the black lake. This is where her and Harry spent alot of their time and it was only fitting that this is where she went to be alone. Here she could think about him but it wasn't the only place that brought just memories of him. She had other memories here too. Besides she needed out of that house.
She sat down by the lake and took out her current novel. She had gotten hooked on trashy romance novels since harry was gone. Each one of them reminded her of him. Merlin if he didnt come home soon she was going to go nutters. She wouldn't be working for stmungos she would be in it. She let the breeze catch her hair and she enjoyed it. She looked out to the lake and let a tear roll down her cheek.

Hermione had been sitting at home for way too long. She needed to get out and not to just go and drink. She really needed to stop. She would after this weekend. After this weekend, this one last weekend, she would stop drinking away her past. She would only drink for special occasions and that was that. No more coming home drunk or wasted. No more passing out on her floor where her boyfriend would then find her. Well that was a one time occurence.
Hermione went to the place where she felt the safest, Hogwarts. She didn't no where she was going but she was here. The place that she had considered a second home growing up. This world was her new home ever since she found out she was a witch. She sighed, making her way slowly to the Black Lake. It brought back so many memories. Being here brought back so many memories. Here was where her and Ron spent their one-year relationship before it all dissolved. She shook her head, not wishing to think about the argument that had ensued the night before he left. They just didn't end it on a good note and he left on a bad one.
Hermione then noticed a familar red-head. She hadn't seen her in a while, she thought. Well maybe that would be because Hermione went to work then home most of the time with occasional outings with Viktor. That was what her life was now. And she didn't like going over to the Weasley's for Ron seemed to always be brought up in the conversation when she was around. It was like they didn't understand that she didn't wish to talk or think about him.
She smiled, walking up to Ginny. Her smile quickly faded when she saw a tear on Ginny's face. Was she just crying? Hermione knew that Ginny missed Harry a lot. Hermione missed him too and recieved letters from him everytime he got the chance to write. Ron never sent her anything but she had heard that he did write his family. That was how they got news on him and anything else he was doing. She never asked if she was ever mentioned in the letter. She didn't want to know. She didn't care. Well she did care a little bit but she wouldn't let it get to her.
"Hey Ginny, are you alright?" she asked her friend with concern. She hated to see her friend upset. The last she had heard of Ginny was that she was working in St. Mungo's as a healer. She was proud that Ginny had such a wonderful job. Hermione's job was dull as she feverishly worked for house-elf rights. But no one seemed to pay her any attention just yet. She hoped that they would soon. She wasn't trying to free the house-elfs but gain them some rights. They at least deserved that.

Ginny could hear footsteps coming up behind her but she didn't care. It could have been anyone, friend or foe. None of them would get ta reaction out of her unless they spoke to her. She was too far gone in her own world. Her own little day dream. She found that she was daydreaming more and more now adays. Who would have thought that she would have even passed her Healer training with all of her wanderings and dreams about Harry.
It felt like everything was soo far away from her. LIke it was almost surreal. She was in her body but her mind was constantly elsewhere. Right now it was out on the black lake in a small little boat. She knew that it was dangerous but she was with Harry and would go anywhere and do anything for him. It was the middle of the winter, and she was bundled up in a warm jacket, a blanket, and of course with Harry's arms wrapped around her body.
It was the first time they had said I love you when they were together and meant it in the sense that they knew they were going to be togetheer. Forever. She didn't need a ring to tell her that but she hoped that she would have one, and soon. But more importantly she hoped that he would come home soon. She missed him too much for her own good.
She was finally snapped out of her daydream and thought about Harry and her in the boat on the lake when someone called her name repeated by asking if she was alright. She turned her head slowly. At first she didn't recognize the voice and she was going to ignore but something inside of her told to turn around and open that what seemed to be permantly glued shut mouth of hers.
She was glad she did. " Hey Hermione" she said slightly sadated. " Oh no its nothing" she told her and wiped the tear off of her face. " I just wish he would come home again. I hate sleeping in our bed alone" she told her. She didn't want to say too much. She got letters and it was more than what Hermione got from Ron. Even if they weren't together she knew how Hermione felt about Ron. Regardless of what she said. She had been there and done that when Hermione was off saving the world with Harry and Ron the first time.
She wasn't one to stand in anyone's face and say See what I mean? Now do you know how I felt? But she didn't not once. "Sometimes I have to look at his picture because I'm afraid I'll forget what he looks like..." she admitted slightly embarassed.

Hermione was surprised that she had to say Ginny's name several times just to get her attention. She must have been in deep thought if even her own voice wasn't penetrating through. Hermione had an idea of who Ginny was thinking about. It must be Harry. She missed him just like Hermione did. She wasn't use to her boys not being around and it made her wish sometimes that she had gone with them. But she had other plans. She wanted to fight for house-elf rights like she had been doing in school before the war broke out.
She may not fully understand what Ginny was going through but she was there for her. There were those nights when Hermione could hardly sleep and her dreams tormented her. But it was for another boy. A boy that had left her behind and told her to move on. She never understood that red-head and she believed she never would. But Hermione had did as he had asked and tried to move on. Honestly she tried. Three years later, here she was dating Viktor Krum, a star quidditch seeker from Bulgaria, and she still hadn't fully moved on.
"He'll be here soon," Hermione reassured the red-haired girl. Hermione had gotten really close to Ginny over the years. She had helped Ginny with the whole Harry ordeal when she was younger and at Hogwarts. She had given her the advice to see other guys to get Harry to notice her. It had worked for they soon started dating. He ended it though to protect her from Voldemort but as soon as it was over, they were back together. She was glad that the two were happy and in love.
Hermione didn't think that she could ever be truly happy. Not now. He had ended it even after her desperate pleas and arguments. He had just shook his head and walked away. And Hermione had stood there, crying watching him walk away from her for the last time. Hermione had wanted to get out of there and move far away. She didn't want to be questioned by the Weasley's about what happened between her and Ron.
Hermione took a seat next to her female companion. She hoped that Harry and Ron would come home soon. She hated to admit but she missed Ron. She missed Harry too but she missed Ron more. She wasn't use to not having her two best friends around. Everything seem to change when they left Hogwarts. They were all going their own ways and Hermione was afraid that they couldn't be the same trio that they were in school. Well she should have seen it coming. She was Hermione Granger of course, the brightest witch of her generation.
Hermione nodded her head. "I'm sure he does the same about you. He probably has some hidden picture of you that he looks at everyday," Hermione told her. She hoped that this would make Ginny feel better. "And you know that he loves you and always will. I know he does." Hermione gave Ginny a warm smile before looking across the lake. She had once been underneath that lake. Her current boyfriend, Viktor Krum, had saved her.
Hermione looked back over to Ginny. She didn't want to think about anymore memories of the lake. They would only bring back painful ones, ones that she had been trying to erase. "How have you been doing?" she asked. "I heard you're a healer now." She was proud of Ginny. She knew that she would be successful in whatever she planned to do.

Ginny nodded at Hermione's words. She knew that she was right. Harry would be here soon. " I know that he will. Its just been too long without him. I miss him so much" she began. " You know when I come home from work I still look to see if hes at the kitchen table even though I know he won't be. I still turn down his side of the bed at night." she said explaining it to Hermione.
" I know that he's doing what he has to for us and for himself. I wouldn't want him not to do it. It just... it gets lonely. I mean you have Vicktor. But me... Everyone left me. Or so it seems" she said honestly. Even Hermione had become too busy. Doing what she was doing. Fighting for house elves rights. Then when she started to see Krum. Everything went and left Ginny. She knew that as they got older it would happen. But she didn't expect it to happen so soon. She expected to have at least Hermione a part of her life. But then again she also never thought that Hermione would move on.
" Why did you move on?" she asked her honestly and blutly. But that was Ginny for you. She never skated around an issue. She had to know everything and everything up front. There was no point in asking things in a way to make someone feel better about it. Why should she? Sometimes the truth hurt. She knew that. And she wasn't one that didn't expect to have the truth put into her face either.
She knew that Hermione had been there through it all with her. That made her Ginny's best friend. She might not ever be a member of the trio but she was still close with them. Thats part of the reason why she asked Hermione about why she moved on. She knew that Ron still loved Hermione. Most of the letters to Ginny from him told her that. He figured that Harry did it for Ginny that he was doing it for Hermione. He didn't want to be the reason that she was alone and unhappy. Ginny knew all of this and she hated having to say that she didn't know who Hermione was dating just that she was. Her brother would throw a fit. He had this big plan to come home and sweep her off her feet. Now Ginny wasn't so sure that he would be able too.
Ginny smiled at Hermione as she took a seat next to her and said words of comfort that only Hermione could must up with out sounding cheesey. " Your right lets just hope its not one that Ron would flip over" she said laughing. Not that Ginny had ever been daring enough to give one that would be considered revealing but he did have one of her in her red bikini. Merlin only knew where that picture ended up. " I know he does. Thats what makes it so hard." she admitted.
Then she thought about it. " Do you think... that he will ask me to marry him?" she asked her. She hoped that he would and hopefully soon she just didn't know if anyone else thought that same. Then she began to think about Hermione. She always thought that her adn Ron would get married. " Do you love Vicktor? I mean do you think that you will marry him or do you still love ron?" she asked her seriously giving her that don't you dare lie to me i can see right through you and you know it look.
She smiled when she asked how she was. " I'm alright. Yeah I became a healer I know I have always wanted to help others and this is the best way for me to do it. Besides if anything were to happen I could be there to help" she said with a grin. " But what about you? I heard that your working at the ministry still. Hows the fight for house elves coming along?" she asked with a grin. The first timme smiling since Harry was gone without it being a thougght about harry

Hermione listened to the flaming red-hair girl that she was best friends with. She was the girl that Hermione could talk to when she was having boy problems. Well not about every boy problem since she seemed to be having her own crisis right now. All that was running through her head most of the time was that he was coming back. What was she going to say to him? What was he going to say to her? And what would he do seeing her with Viktor now? It was his idea though to move on and get over him.
Hermione gave Ginny an apologetic look. "I'm sorry Ginny I've been so busy," she apologized. She felt guilty for leaving Ginny behind. She had gone off to do her own thing now that Harry and Ron were gone. She didn't have to worry about the two boys getting in trouble. It was almost like a sense of freedom at first. Well that actually didn't settle in until two years ago after a year later when they left. She had been in a slump and depression when Ron left. That first year had been the hardest for her but she was slowly getting her life together. She had realized that she couldn't let a guy do that to her. She couldn't throw her life away because of some red-headed boy. She just couldn't do that.
But then Ginny had to bring it up. Of course she would bring her brother up while she was here. She just couldn't keep Ron out of the conversation, could she? Could no one see that she didn't wish to talk about it? Hermione sighed, looking down at her feet. She didn't want to answer. She had been avoiding those kind of questions ever since he left and she planned to keep it that way. "Ginny, please don't start," she begged. "You know I don't want to discuss what happened between me and your brother. We're over. It was what he wanted and thats that." She hoped that her friend would understand.
Hermione laughed along with Ginny. She was right. Ron would flip if it was something he considered inappropiate. She felt sorry for Harry if Ron flipped for she wasn't there to control him this time. She had always save Harry and Ginny from Ron's ridiculous overprotectiveness. "I'm sure that he won't do anything to upset your brother and if he does, then you may end up with a not-so-alive boyfriend," she joked. Hermione nodded her head vigorously when she asked if Harry would marry her. "Of course Ginny. I'm sure of it." Hermione was sure that Harry would be asking Ginny to marry him soon and couldn't wait til their wedding.
But then she had to bring it up again. Didn't she ever give up? Hermione sighed irritably. "Ginny, I told you I don't want to talk about it. It's not worth a conversation," she told her, hoping that Ginny would just drop it this final time. But by the looks of it, this conversation wasn't over. She really didn't want to discuss it for the truth would be out.
Hermione smiled, glad that Ginny was living her dream. She would make a great healer, Hermione was sure of that. "Well I've been doing good," she shrugged. "I've been busy at the ministry lately and Viktor is getting ready for season. But yeah, I'm still working toward house-elf rights. I'm almost gained them wages." Hermione smiled, hoping that the new bill would pass soon.

Ginny heard her apology. She of course would accept it immediately but she didn't have to let her know that. A small smirk played along her lips. " Hmm do I accept or don't I?" she asked with a grin. She tapped her finger on her bottom lip,. " Do you have a cookie because that might help me decide" she teased. Though she did love her sweets, she knew that Hermione would be able to tell especially with that grin on her face. " Don't be silly of course I forgive you just don't let it happen again or I won't " she playfully scolded her with a wag of her finger.
She thought that it would at least give her a smile on her face. She knew that Hermione was with Vicktor and she was sure that he brought a smile to her face once in a while but, Ginny had yet to see it and she missed seeing her best friend smile. If there was something that Ginny could do to make her smile then she would but Hermione had to deal with it on her own. Ginny just might have to give her a push into the right direction.
" I know you've been busy. What with work, drinking my brother away and the Bulgarian Bon-Bon" she joked. She didn't know for sure if Hermione had been drinking as much as she had heard. George said that he had seen her in a few of the bars plastered. But this was her way of finding out. She hoped not. Hermione was so much better than that. " I know I remind you of Ron but were different people you have to remember that" she pointed it out. She hated being compared to her brother and she of all people should know that much.
" No Hermione, I will bring it up. It has to be brought up. If you have moved on so much then talk about him. Because lets face it your going to have to deal with him. Once they come back you can't ask me or Harry to choose or to see you seperately from Ron or my family. And don't tell me that won't happen" she began speaking her mind. " Because we both know it will. Why won't you talkl about it unless you still love him." she said honestly.
She knew that it might come off harsh but she didn't care she said what she had to say. Its funny how their roles got reversed like that. Hermione was always the one telling her how to look at thiings and deal with things and now she was going it for Hermione. " Its like you told me when Harry left me for saving the world as we know it. He loves you and did this for your own good. He had something he had to do and while he didn't want you to move on he would feel guilty if you did wait for him" she explained. " My brother is a teasthingy and you know it" she pointed out.
she stopped and laughed as hermione began to laugh. it was good to see her laugh. She hadn't heard that laughter in a long time. It was more soothing than any sound she could think of. She laughed more at her comment. " And then Ron will be another Weasley down and the contest with who is my favorite brother will win by default to George" she added with a laugh. To be honest Fred had been her favorite and closest brother with Ron second. When Fred died a part of Ginny died as well thats why it was so hard when Harry left. She was still dealing with the loss of Fred.
She sighed when Hermione told her that she didn't want to talk about it. " Hermione you need to talk about it. Its not gonna solve itself. And if you aren't willing to talk about it then you aren't over it. if you can't talk to me about it then maybe wee aren't as close as I thought" she said honestly with a shrug. Maybe hermione felt that she couldn't talk to ginny about it.
Ginny smiled and nodded. " Well its a start if you ever need help let me know" she told her with a smile. Then she turned her thoughts back to Harry. " if he does ask me, will you be my maid of honor?" she asked her hopeful. " And help me plan it" she asked.

Hermione just shook her head when Ginny was teasing her. She knew that she had been forgiven. It was Ginny's way of saying it. "I'm sorry, I don't have any cookies today," she joked, smiling. "I won't. Hopefully my job will slow down for a bit." Hermione really did hope so especially since Harry was coming back. She would love to spend more time with Harry and Ginny again. But she knew that Ron might be there too. Did she really want to be in the same room with him? No, she didn't.
The smile that she had on her face quickly faded as she paled. How did Ginny know about her drinking away all her miseries? She had been going alone with no one else knowing. Well Viktor had an idea but not really. And she had limited the times she went to so she didn't even go as often as she did in the past. The past being only two years ago. Everything seemed to be two years ago now. She had finally got her life back together two years ago. She had limited the alchohol she consumed two years ago.
"What do you mean drinking your brother away?" she asked her cautiously. Ginny couldn't know, Hermione kept telling herself. It just wasn't possible. But it was like she did. The whole joking purpose was gone for Hermione saw no joke in it at the moment. She was in freak out mode at the moment.
Hermione was off her feet so fast after Ginny's little speech about talking about Ron. She didn't and wouldn't talk about Ron. "I told you, Ginny, I don't wish to talk about it. What happened between me and your brother willl stay between me and Ron. Thats just how it is," she sighed, sitting back down. She didn't want to overreact about the situation. There was no point of starting an argument with Ginny over something stupid like this. It just wasn't worth the time and day. "I don't expect you guys to see us seperately. But its over between us. Theres nothing there anymore, no chemistry, no nothing." She shook her head.
But Ginny had a point. If she wasn't able to talk to Ginny about it, then maybe they weren't so close. Or Ginny just might be trying to get her to spit out the truth. She hated to admit but she was still in love with Ron. She just couldn't see herself with him again. She didn't think it could happen, not ever again. He had left her and she had did exactly what he had said, moved on. It was what he wanted but when did Hermione ever take orders? She didn't until she gave her heart to Ron it seemed. She was willing to do everything for him but it just wasn't meant to be. She hated the thought that Ron might go off and marry someone else, leaving Hermione alone. Because Hermione knew that she would never marry Viktor or anyone else for that matter.
Hermione sighed, making a decision. It was a tough decision but she had made it. "Ginny, you know I trust you and I tell you everything. But Ron left and he took a part of me with him. He left me here alone, declaring himself unworthy of me and telling me to move on. It killed me inside the way he ended it and I argued that whole night with him. I'm sure you heard us," Hermione sighed, blushing a bit at the last part. The memory still lingered in her mind. She was sure that it would always be there. "I don't like talking about last night and I don't like talking about him."
Their were tears welling up in Hermione's eyes as she talked. She hated crying in front of people but she was such an emotional person. She just couldn't help it. "I didn't receive one letter from him while he was gone. He didn't even bother to write to me. He doesn't even care and he will never know what he did to me," Hermione continued, shaking her head. She was just spilling out everything she was feeling. Everything she was feeling about their breakup, him not writing, everything that had to deal with him.
"Of course, I will," Hermione grinned. "Harry and you are my best friends. I wouldn't miss it for the world...or my job." Hermione laughed. "And sure, I love weddings. They're so wonderful and beautiful." Hermione wasn't even thinking that Harry would be asking Ron to be his best man. That was the last thing on her mind. Or that she had to dance with the best man at the wedding. She was just thinking about how wonderful the wedding was going to be.

Ginny faked her notorious pout when Hermione said that she didn’t have any cookies. She knew that she didn’t but it didn’t mean that she wouldn’t pick on her and tease her with a pout. As much as Ginny loved her cookies, she knew that when Hermione was joking and smiling that was much better than any snack, food, or sweet would do to her. She nodded. “ Good because I miss my best friend” she said with a grin. It was true that she had missed Hermione. She knew they were both growing up but growing up didn’t mean apart did it? She hoped not. Not for them.
She knew that Hermione would ask her about the drinking. It wasn’t that she had read her mind or anything silly like that. She wasn’t even suppose to say anything but she couldn’t help it. She was worried and concerned. Besides all of that she couldn’t imagine why her and Ron weren’t together. Besides that he was a git but she didn’t have to move on as fast as she did.
She sighed. “ George. George likes to go out every now and then and every time he has he’s seen you with … well lets just say not your best. He even saw you with Malfoy” she said almost whispering as if it were a really dirty secret. “ I’m sorry its none of my business but I worry about you, I just don’t want anything to happen to you” she said honestly and concerned. Where had everything gone down hill and Ginny didn’t even notice her friend slipping?
“ I hate to break it to you but everyone in that house knows what happened that night and it doesn’t help that Ro..on. Nevermind” she began but quickly caught herself. She had almost spilled something else. She was horrible at keeping secrets. She never saw any need for them. She almost told her that everything about what Ron would write home to her about., her letters were always much different than the ones her mother got from Ron. Ron could always tell Ginny everything and she actually understood where Ron was coming from in breaking things off with Hermione. Not that she didn’t think that it was a troll thing to do. “ Good” she said with a nod. At least there was one thing set straight. “ We’ll see” was all she said with a look on her face that only told her that she thought better about it.
Ginny nodded as she listened to Hermione go on. “ I know it seems like that but he did write to me about you” she said without thinking. She hit her head with hand. “ Ugh, I really need to place a charm on my mouth to not talk without thinking” she groaned. She looked to Hermione. “ Alright, heres the deal. He wrote to me a lot and all he would ever talk about was you and he missed you. But, you didn’t hear it from me” she said with a sigh.
She ran a hand up and down her back in a comforting motion. “ im sorry Hermione” she assured her. She really was. She couldn’t believe that any of this was happening.
Ginny beamed. “ Great! Now all I need is a fiance” she giggled. “ I hope he doesn’t expect this to be all drawn out” she mused outloud. She wanted it over as quickly as possible. Maybe an engagment dinner at mums, the wedding simple maybe in the winter. That would be nice. Or even a late fall wedding. That would be even better. Even if they didn’t get to go on a honeymoon right away that would be alright. She needed not to think about it so much and let it happen. If Harry was even going to ask her to marry him. That was a big if.

Hermione sighed, knowing that she had been caught. One of the Weasley's had seen her and even worse, it was the prankster one. Well at least she could be glad that he didn't confront her about it. That might have ended up in a mess since she knew that George would most likely push her to her limits. And it wasn't a good time to push Hermione's buttons while she was drinking or drunk.
Hermione remembered her time with Malfoy. He had been a bit more tolerant that time and they had actually been civil surprisingly. "Well he has changed a lot," Hermione stated. "We were actually talking and weren't trying to kill each other for once. Malfoy seems like he has matured since his days at Hogwarts." That was at least what she thought. They're hadn't even been one argument between them while they talked. They talked more about life and how things had changed.
Hermione gave her a small smile. She was glad to have a friend who was so concerned about her. She knew that at least someone cared. She had always wondered at night if the Weasley's ever thought anything different of her while she was gone. She hadn't seen the rest of the Weasley family since her and Ron broke up. She just couldn't face them.
Hermione shot her head up in surprise when Ginny told her that he talked about her all the time. "He does?" she asked surprised. She didn't think Ron cared all along. Why didn't he write her? She would have certainly wrote him back. There would have been no hesitation but she had gone all these years without a scrap of news. The only thing that she could assume is that he didn't care and probably found someone else.
Hermione finally took deep breaths and calm down. She didn't need to be crying over some stupid git like Ron. He just wasn't worth it anymore. "It's alright, Ginny," Hermione said, giving a watery smile. "I"ll be fine. It's just your brother."
"Well I'm sure he'll ask you to marry him any time now. He's coming back soon and I know that you're on his mind," Hermione told her excitedly. "Oh I can't wait!" Hermioen couldn't wait. She absolutely adored weddings. She got to get all dressed up and do her hair in some special way that she wouldn't normally do it in. Weddings were always so beautiful. But Hermione didn't think she would ever have one since she certainly wasn't marrying Ron. And she couldn't think of anyone else she would marry or rather marry.
